Mulberry - Zone 5 NY
Diospyros virginiana
Persimmon 'Meader' with closeup of fruit
The foliage is very attractive followed by orange colored fruit. A handsome tree. Seems to do well here in Zone 5, but the taste of the fruit? Tastes like airplane glue and makes your mouth pucker to the extreme.

I have often been told that the fruit of the persimmon is sweeter after it frosts, this seems an old southern belief. I see no evidence of that. One of our persimmon trees in the winter
We always use the fruit of our persimmon trees. We never have to use any type of fertilizer or nutrients on them. Every year there are new babies springing up nearby the mature trees.
